Building the Future of Hospitality

Yvette Knisley-Coffin, Project Director, Fontainebleau Las Vegas
Tweet

My professional journey at Fontainebleau Las Vegas began during the construction phase, where I oversaw all low-voltage systems throughout the property. As the project evolved, I transitioned into my current role as Project Director, bridging the outgoing construction team and the incoming construction and facility operations. This shift required balancing technical expertise with operational strategy to seamlessly transition from development to day-to-day operations.

The Power of Teamwork and Technology

Fostering collaboration and ensuring a long-term vision for innovation is key to successfully opening a property of this scale. Seamlessly integrating IT and low-voltage systems into operations is not just about technology—it’s about people. Surrounding yourself with a highly skilled, like-minded team creates a powerhouse of expertise that streamlines the process and ensures that every system is optimized for efficiency and guest experience.

Mastering Financial Planning in Hospitality

Managing operational and capital budgets is a challenge in any large-scale project, but it becomes even more complex when there is no historical data to rely on. Anticipating future needs without an established Capital Expenditure plan requires strategic foresight and adaptability. The key to overcoming these obstacles has been fostering an open line of communication between internal teams. While it may sound cliché, transparent and continuous dialogue ensures that every financial decision is well-informed and aligned with the long-term vision of the property.

Prioritization: The Key to Financial Efficiency

Optimizing financial efficiency while delivering impactful projects hinges on one simple principle: prioritization. The first step in any financial assessment is distinguishing between a “need” and a “nice-to-have.” Needs always take precedence, ensuring resources are allocated to initiatives that drive operational success and enhance guest experiences. Maintaining consistent communication within the team helps in making informed decisions that align with both short-term requirements and long-term financial sustainability.

Leadership in Hospitality: The Formula for Success

Successful leadership in managing IT, infrastructure, and development projects in the hospitality industry requires a strategic mindset, adaptability, and unwavering commitment. As a project director of construction and development, it is essential to integrate technology with infrastructure seamlessly, ensuring that projects are not only completed efficiently but also future-proofed for evolving industry demands.

First, success begins with a strong vision—believing in the feasibility of ambitious projects and setting clear objectives. Second, you must leverage your team’s wealth of knowledge and experience. And finally, you must see every project through to completion. With the right mindset and a team of committed professionals, even the most complex projects can be executed seamlessly.
